Us

A quick and dirty LO for a friend. Am quite surprised at how it turned out. Teaches me that a great LO doesn't require 1. a lot of time, 2. a lot of embellishments. Only a lot of love! LOL!

PP: Sassafras, DCWV, Scenic Route, MME
Die cut: Collage Press
Rubons: Basic Grey
Alphas: Heidi Swapp
Sticker: AC
Others: Buttons, Robin Nest Dew Drops
Mediums: Slick Writer, Tsukineko Dew Drops

MWL submission

These are my LOs for the DT submission at MWL! (BEWARE! Photo heavy post!)

Little Explorer - My sizzix LO

It’s a photo of my little one and his first time at the beach!

Sizzix die: The flower die cut is from the pack provided by MWL and all the rest is from a single die (PEtal Heart and centre die) – The edges of the LO, the red edges of the circle, the green edges of the flower
PP: Sassasfraslass, SEI, Doodlebug Sugar Coated Cardstock, Autumn Leaves (Mod collection)
Die cut: Collage Press, Jillibean Soup
Medium: Ranger Distress Ink, TA Glimmer mist, Tsukineko Dew drops. Stickles
Alpha: AC Thickers, Colorbok
Tag: From a tag exchange previously – further distressed with inks
Others: Robin’s Nest Dew Drops, Sakura Gelly Roll

You n Me

Again another LO of my little muse! LOL!
The most difficult part was the journalling coz I’m not so good with the words… It’s a letter from me to him.

I was inspired to use up my specialty "papers" and decided it would be nice to combine 2 different types of specialty papers.

Overlay: Fancy Pants
PP: Heidi Swapp invisibles, Autumn Leaves Mod
Flowers: Prima, AC thickers (the asterix), Petaloo
Medium: Ranger Distress Ink, Stickles,
Alpha: Thickers, MAMBI
Bling: Heidi Swapp

Smiles & Laughter
A series of photos of my little one that I love a lot! I thought the quote was so appropriate. Journalling: A laugh is a smile that bursts. ~Mary H. Waldrip

Sizzix die: I used the die cut provided by MWL – I used Crackle paint then inked with Distress Ink and then Stickles on the edges and finally a rubon and colored it in with Stickles!
PP: Sassasfraslass, Pink Paisley
Medium: Staedler water color pencils, Stickles, Ranger distress Ink, Tsukineko Dew drops, Ranger Crackle Paint, Glossy Accent, Adirondack® Dimensional Pearls,
Die cut: Collage press
Chipboard: Maya Road, AC, Pretty Darn Quick
Rub on: AC, Creative Imaginations, Chatterbox
Alphas: Thickers, SEI
Others: Prima Flowers, Robin’s Nest Dew Drops, Kaiser Craft brads, Cloud 9 Rain Dots, 7G sticker

Project
My project submission were cards and I must admit they weren't the best and were a rather hurried job. But the photos of the ones I loved best.

This card show cases the following techniques:
1. Stamping and embossing (the brown paper actually has chalk ink stamping but it is very faint and doesnt show up on photos)
2. Use of Pebbles Inc blending chalks and pastels and Gelly Roll

These take a little less time mainly because the stamping, coloring and embossing component are removed.
The other 2 cards: PP: Bo Bunny Others: Seed beads

The next 2 cards are my "scraps" cards. In other words, I use left overs to put together. So I'm not sure what some of the scraps are any more.

In this card, I used the Flower Heart Petals and Centre die with the Butterfly die from Sizzix. Stickles were used on the butterfly. On top of that I used a Texturizz plate on the chipboard letters. I also used it on the die cut (Circus Sizzix). After which I inked the surface to bring up the pattern. The pink flower is cut from foam!

Other news...

Didn't make the cut for the MWL DT. Can't say I wasn't disappointed. But hey, got 3 of my best LOs (in my humble opinion) in a short time, got the experience, got to be on "display" with a whole load of talented people. I think that's quite good considering the competition! LOL! Congrats to Geraldine and Yin Wen!!

Revamp done!

I must say that I am quite amazed that the revamp was so easy! Nowadays with the internet, almost anything is possible. Google for instructions, google for templates, google for fonts... And WAHLAH! Hope you love the new LO as much as I do!

Dug into my Webster Pages. Did a "pretty" boy LO!
Inspired by: Scrapping Out Loud

I distressed the torn edges of the LO.
Stuck on embroidery thread for the kite and tied on ribbons. The ribbons are further "distressed" with Copic marker. Then I cut up the Petaloo flowers and use them as both flowers and leaves. Glossy accent used on cherrys to give them that pop and 3D feel. Crackle pain on the alphas for a slightly "muddy" feel.

PP: Webster's Pages, OA
Journalling Spot: Maya Road
Bling: Imaginesce, Heidi Swapp
Flowers: Petaloo
Alphas: Thickers, Heidi Swapp
Others: Stickles, Ribbon, Embroidery thread, Crackle paint, Glossy accent, Copic marker, Doiley

Under construction

Am playing around with the blog layout. Don't mind me!

On tenterhooks

Yeah. The MWL DT. I must say that the LOs were really nice! Especially when I went down and saw them in person at MWL! Even if I don't get the position, I can say that I was proud to have been showcased with other such wonderful talents!

Done!

Submitted my application for MWL DT. Will be taking a bit of time off here to 1. Finish an assignment 2. Maybe do a LO for Pooi's challenge 3. Clear my scrap room (it never ends, does it?) and 4. Take a mental break. Will post the LOs I submitted soon. I must admit that these LOs may just be my best yet!

I got the Big Kick 2 years ago and it has been sitting on my desk for the longest time with me taking it out only once in a while. But it was this DT call that really made me take out my investment. I only buy dies that I feel are versatile and have more than one use. Dies are not cheap and dies with a number of uses would stretch my dollars a lot longer. Am glad that my choices have proven good. Had lots of fun S-T-R-E-T-C-H-I-N-G my dollar and imagination with the dies!

Will be back soon! (Will draw the RAK winner tomorrow and let you guys know before I disappear)

RAK closing in 6.5 hours!

Just a reminder that the RAK giveaway is closin in about 6.5 hours! Hurry and put down your name!

3 down 1 more to go!

Done with the layouts! Yay! Just the project to go! The hubby thinks that I should submit a different LO (one I did not with the intention of submitting) rather than the one I did for specifically for the call. Am really not sure which one to submit. Sigh...

Weekend updates:
1. The hubby got me
a. 50mm nikon lens (f1.4 I think)
b. Bounce flash
c. Back up battery
(As you can see, model numbers and such don't stick in my head much. But boy am I pleased with the photos!)
2. Went to Arab Street - photos to be uploaded (camera died on me while transferring...)

4 more days (I'm on call on Sunday) to the dateline for the DT call! Wish me luck!

P.S. REmember my giveaway!

A big kick in the right direction

Hee... 2 down 2 more to go! I'm still pondering as to what to do for the project part. On the bright side, I have pulled out my Big Kick and started to crank. I realised that although I have the Big Kick for like 3 years, most of my dies are actually from other manufacturers! The versatility of the machine. I actually bought the machine when I first started scrapbooking and well, Sizzix was not very popular then. So the available dies were Quickutz etc. It was way too expensive to buy Sizzix dies and ship them in (although I did that with the machine - don't ask. Exam stress) And now that MWL has brought them in, I must admit that I haven't gotten around to buying much because a lot of the promos require the purchase of a machine which I already have.

Finally, I have a BIG KICK (sorry the pun)in the right direction and am putting my investment into good use! This has made me tempted to go buy more dies!

Oh yes! I forgot to mention that I just got my copy of Scrapbooking Asian Style! from Kristy (due to my long absense last year) And it's really quite something to see my LOs in print!

Scrapbook musings and DT calls

A MWL DT call!! I am sooo excited! I totally missed the last one. Didn't even know there was one - I was that busy and stressed! Looking back at that time (when the call was made), I am thankful that God has seen us through those times. It was truly difficult with hospital admissions, operations and what not. Things have definitely improved since then! And I am finally back to scrapping proper!

Before this DT call, I had started applying for DT positions recently on challenge and sketch blogs recently. And this has forced me to go through my "achievements" in the field of scrapbooking. Admittedly, I do not have a list like many do. In terms of publishing, I only have 1. And in all honesty, I don't know how to submit for one or where to look! The pub that I have was requested for by the author when she saw my LO in a forum. But I have had the honor of teaching a few classes at MWL and that was definitely an experience! I started off as a card maker. And plunged into the scrapbooking world and somewhat into the spotlight with little experience. When I look back at my initial LOs, I'm somewhat embarrassed. I do wonder at times why I was so pleased with the LO! And in the course of my blog readings, I am comforted by the fact that there are established scrappers who started off fumbling in this area like me!

But on the bright side, I think I have finally "found" a style that is ME. To me, art has to come from within and not copied. It is because of this that for the longest time, I refused to look at sketch blogs. Haha! It didn't feel original enough for me! But then, I took the plunge this year and boy have I found that it actually helped me discover that 1. I did have a PERSONAL style 2. I could journal 3. I could create LOs that impressed even myself! LOL! 4. I should go with the flow and not try too hard - my best creations started coming when I accepted my style and didn't try to outdo myself.

In some sense, scrapbooking has been a journey of self discovery and understanding of myself and people around me. It hasn't been just the art part. It is a community. I have met the nice and the not so nice. I have learnt graciousness and how to deal with difficult people from the people I meet. Some of these things are a lot easier learnt outside of work life. I have picked up skills like teaching and putting what I know intuitively into words. I have also received great kindness and encouragement from the community!

So why am I applying for the DT at MWL? I would like to think I have what it takes. I definitely have the passion (or what my hubby calls obsession! LOL!) And I find that I do produce better LOs when I have a "starting point" to expand from. I have finished 1 LO and have 2 more to go. One being the one requiring Sizzix die cuts. Am deliberating on whether or not to do cards (which is my forte) as my project but kinda feel that cards are always viewed "inferior" to altered items. Although my cards do get rather intricate and complicated and may actually take more time than altered items. Will be on call today. But that means I can go for the new arrivals tomorrow! YAY!!

Picture updates

The photo upload problem with blogger seems to have resolved for me. So here are the little toots!

LOTW #29 at Made With Love:

Runner up position for Piradee's Patchwork Challenge!

Journalling: Come, cuddle your head on my shoulder, dear, your head like the golden-rod, and we will go sailing away from here to the beautiful land of Nod.

I found this photo which went so well with the patchwork theme - a paper quilt! And the white felt is like my kid's blanket that he uses sometimes.

PP: All scraps! More than 9 squares!
Sewing: on the white felt - both French Knots and back stich
Ribbon: through the buttons.
Thickers (as usual!)

Another toot!

Tee hee!

I won the runner up position for Piradee's Patchwork Challenge! Woohoo! Am so honored to be tied with 2 smashing entries too!

It was for this LO. For some reason, Blogger doesn't want to load my photos up!! Really need to figure out why. Can't blog on a scrapblog with no photos, right?!
