Lori's Loft

Was given Jenni Bowlin to play with by Erica at Your Scrapbook Stash.  Couldn't wait to dig into it!

I sprayed Glimmer Mist onto Kraft paper.  While that was drying, I cut the JBS patterned paper into strips and distressed them.  Added a strip of JBS sticker to the brown patterned paper to accent it.  Cut the border of the journalling cards and framed the photo.  Layered the chipboard buttons and secured with the twine.  Title on, journalling written. DONE!

One of my simplest layouts by far but I really love it!

Inspired for Sketchy Thursdays
Materials all from YSS (Jenni Bowln, Basic Grey alphas, Glimmer Mist)

A shout out to the lovely ladies!

Thank you Shirley, Jaz, Ed, Georgina & Steph for being so gracious and having me!  Hope to see you again soon!

Stop, woah yeah, wait a minute Mr Postman!

So I was at work when I received a call
Me: Hello
Man: Hello, I am outside your house
Me: Uh ya, I'm not at home
Man: I know! So I'm going to throw the package into your house!
Me: What package?!
Man: It is a small package don't worry!
Me: What's in the package?! I don't know if it's breakable!
Man: Don't worry - small, small package! I can throw! I think it says paper
Me: Then you can't leave it out in the open. What if it rains
Man: Don't worry! I'll throw into the shade. I'm sure of that! So ok? I throw ah...

All this time he didn't introduce himself and I was wondering what "small" package he was talking about! The only packages I was expecting weren't small from my point of view!

So when I got home, it was my package from YSS!! Yay! Now to get cracking on my layouts!!

Day 1

Did this layout during the overnight crop at Made With Love! It was an awful lot of fun although I must say that I'm paying for the lack of sleep today! LOL!  It was great to meet so many familiar and not so familiar faces!

I actually had a slightly different look in mind when I packed my bags for the crop.  But it turned out this way! Everyone asked if he were a Christmas baby! Nope.  I just LOVE  the paper!!

I started the layout cutting out the frame and distressing it.  Unfortunately, the effect doesn't photograph well although it looks nice "live".

Admittedly, not really your conventional baby boy layouts.  Was digging around for non-scrapbook stuff to scrap and remembered this baby tag!  Initial plan was for a shaker box to contain the tag but it would have been too big and so I had to rehash the plan.  And that meant that I had to look for my 2nd item which was non scrapbook related...  Found the ribbon that came on one of his presents when he was born.

Loving my Daiso lace.

Patterned paper: Webster's Pages
Mediums: Glimmer Mist, Stickles
Embellishments: Pearls, lace, ribbon, baby tag, Dew Drops Ink, Creative Imaginations die cut

Theory of Relativity

I had to justify buying the Sassafraslass paper although admittedly, it is a little tricky to use for me.  This is a fresh photo (Yes! The hubby bought paper and ink for me!) at the bird park today.  We were looking at the smelly ostriches.  UGH!  And my little one look so tiny compared to those ugly birds! LOL!

The sketch used:

I turned the sketch upside down, turned the photo 90 degrees and shifted all the title and journalling to the right.

A little embellishment corner...

A close up of the journalling and title.

Coz the photo was rather busy, I thought I'd highlight the small boy and the big ostrich.  I thought it was quite funny.  But you may not share my humor!

Love the bright cheery colors of Sassafraslass but all the images on the patterned paper were overlapping so to cut them out was quite tricky.  And then to position and create a balanced layout, even more difficult!

Added some of the chipboard stickers from Sassafraslass.  MUST-JUSTIFY pieces I tell you! I have realised that I have WAY too much stuff that I bought just because it cute/pretty/cheap.  Working my way through it all.

Me, Myself & I

Am in a Webster Pages mood recently.

With the photo printer being down, I had to dig around for already printed photos.  Here are 3 photos I had taken at a Laine's event 2 - 3 years ago.  I forgot the name of the event.  But it was one of the 1st few mass crop events I attended.  It was FUN!

I made a frame for the layout with a WP sticker on cardstock and elevated it off the main layout with foam dots.  Then I distressed the edges with Crackle Paint.  Love how it caused the edges to curl a little.  Tried out the matt accent (the cousin of glossy accent) on the little polka dots on the frame and the conclusion is that I'm not a fan.  Not much difference in my opinion.

The branch is also painted with Crackle Paint.

All the Webster Pages paper were hand cut and layered around the edges.  A little sparkle was added with Stickles

I put eyelets on the photos to link them all up in a row with a ribbon. The butterflies were also handcut - from Cloud 9.  I further embellished them with My Mind's Eye bling.

It doesn't show up very well here but the rose has a water droplet on the petal which I enhanced with Glossy Accent.

The little trail of bling behind the butterfly was made with Hero Art's Bling. And I scattered some Robin's Nest Dew Drops on the layout.

Wicked Princess Project Fashionista Challenge 2

The criteria were:
1. Circles
2. Felt
3. Use the title " We are Shaped and fashioned by what we love"

I love the DCWV papers and so cut cut cut I went!  They also went really well with the felt flowers and flower bling that Geraldine RAKed me (And that's another thing I forgot to blog about! G's a really, really generous girl.  She passed me some, actually A LOT of flowers that she felt she wouldn't be able to use to me! She's a real doll!)

Initially planned to do a LO for the little one but the printer is down so I had to improvise! Quite pleased with the results, I must say.

The circles: 1. Photos 2. wreath
The felt: Flowers
The title - as shown!

Patterned paper: My Mind's Eye, Cosmo Cricket, Die Cuts With a View
Embellishments - Bling, Felt flowers

I Do

Another wedding photo scrapped!  I cut out the centre of the die cut paper from Collage Press and cut out the Webster pages flowers and cherries.

The Prima flower was misted along with the Kraft paper for some "zing".
Glossy accent added to the cherries for a 3D effect.

Flower: Prima
Die cut:  Collage Press, Making Memories (journalling spot)

From This Moment

Dug out this photo from almost  years back! Yes, time has flown and I have been married for almost 4 years.  Have been scrapping mostly DS photos and since the photo printer paper and ink are out, I figured it was a sign that I had to scrap my weddings photos instead! LOL!

I stamped the images with versafine and colored them in with Zig Clean Color markers. Further embellished with Stickles and Glossy accent.  Went on to cut cut cut more MME papers and layered on the chipboard.

Was inspired by this ad:

The burst of flowers and leaves, all pink and green inspired the "burst" paper used and the pretty flowers and foilage.

Made the rather plain alphas a bit more feminine and pretty with Liquid pearls.

I'm getting forgetful!

Yeah.  So I had been meaning to blog about how I met up with Pooi, Yin Wen, Geraldine, Sharon and Esther for a short while last week.  But my flu addled brain FORGOT! Can you believe that?! I was actually really excited about it I tell you.

So anyhow, I met up with them and had so much fun talking and deciding what to buy.  A little hobby that brings all these women from all walks of life (a lot from teaching!) together and BAM! Loads to talk about!  I try so hard to keep my promise not to buy anything but always end up buying stuff! LOL!

Thanks for the many well wishes and comments from you guys.  It really makes my day to know that 1. people do care and 2. people do read this blog and I'm not rambling to myself. It keeps me going. Now off to nurse the flu that is threatening to turn into a cough...

Captivated

Just had to at least make a dent on my Jillibean Soup stash.  LOL! I love how the colors can be bright or muted depending on the combination you used them in.  I have cut out and layered my flowers and butterflies and embellished them a little.  The diecut journalling sprout didn't fit so well, so I cut it further to fit the flower.

Low point...

It’s been rather low these last 2 weeks on both the layout front and the health front.    Most of it probably has to do with 1. I have a presentation to do for work (which I’m never a fan of) 2. I have been having rather bad calls and am crazy tired and 3. I’ve come down with a terrible flu.
On the bright side, I haven’t had a flu for like almost a year.  The last being when the little one was 1 – 2 months old.  But one does tend to forget how lousy it makes you feel.  It’s like I don’t feel bad enough for an mc (= take sick leave in Singlish) but oh boy, do I not feel like working either!
BUT low output doesn’t mean no out put either! LOL! I’ve done my 2 layouts for my GDT at The Studio which I can’t show here yet.  And am waiting for my Your Scrapbook Stash stuff to arrive any time soon! I’m all excited I tell you!  Am also taking part in the Wicked Princess forum’s Challenge here! Can’t show my layouts until later due to contest regulations.
Hopefully things will start to pick up.  Completed a layout last night which is waiting for me to take photos of.  Really love the photo of the little one I used.  He’s growing so fast and is becoming so much a “little person” with his own opinions, thought and personality.

MacRitchie Reservoir

MacRitchie Reservoir has always had a nostalgic feel to it for me.  It was very much a part of my growing up years.  So when the weather was good and I had finished my work at a reasonable time, we scooped the little one and trudged down to have a look after the little revamp they had.  Many people had sung praises of how it was much better.
The little one is starting to walk and loving the freedom that comes with it. He wanted to go here, there and everywhere all at once.  Lots to see, lots to do and every nook and cranny was not missed! LOL! All was enjoyable until we came by some monkeys.  Ordinarily it would have been no issue but the mummy monkey decided that she wanted my drink and came really close and we had to walk away quickly.  Only to find another troop of monkeys on the other end! EEK!
So we ended up eating furtively in a "monkey-safe" corner with one looking out for monkeys. Most stressful I tell you.  So the conclusion is: great place to go.  Lovely greenery and a surreal feeling of being transported back to a time where life was a little slower.  BUT DON'T GO WITH FOOD!

15 mths

Time really flies and I can't believe that 15 months has passed so quickly!
Love this simple layout.

Added a little bubble eye to the squirrel on the right hand corner - I think it makes it look a little crazed but the hubby thinks it's cute.

The journalling is a pull out piece using MM note paper.  May consider doing a mini tutorial on how to prevent the entire piece from falling out on it's own when pulled out if people show interest.

Jillibean Soup

Scrapbooking supplies tend to run out very fast in Singapore.  If you didn't get what you really wanted in the week that it was brought in, it is highly likely that it will be SOLD OUT.  Of course this doesn't really include the perennials like card stock and mediums.

So when I discovered Jillibean Soup, most of the stuff was OUT OF STOCK! Sniff! I could only find a few pieces of paper and that was after digging and digging in the random piles of paper that were left over.  Anyhow, I must say despite the fact that I had only such limited stock, I was quite surprised that I could make a really nice layout with that!  To me that shows how well designed and versatile a manufacturer is!

Really looking forward to the next shipment of Jillibean Soup to hit the shelves!! (Which has hit today! WOOHOO!!

I tried to punch holes for the "morning" part of the title - probably would be a lot clearer if the words were larger...

2nd piece of good news!!

I'm guest designing at The Studio too!

I stumbled upon this challenge site last month and boy do they have challenges! Lots of fun at this site! Do have a look!

The first of my good news!

I'm a guest designer at Your Scrapbook Stash this month!

Erica has always been very supportive of Singaporean scrappers having Emeline, Jaz, Wendy and June on her design team at one point or another.  I'm so honored to be chosen for this month's GDT!

Do pop down to her store and browse around.   She has a great range of stuff and very competitive prices! Plus shipping is always one of the lowest around!

1st Month

I was hoarding up this negative of a Collage Press diecut for a while and finally found a great reason to use it!  It was used to frame the layout .  Other negatives used were the journalling tag and the frame for the title.  The jounalling tag's centre piece was a negative of a larger scalloped oval which I layered over another scalloped oval.  The title frame was actually the negative of an oval shaped tag on a Fancy Pants Big Board chipboard.  I cut it out and inked it and used it as a frame.

Some of the paper was already distressed so I further distressed with an emery board all the pieces of paper.  I must say I quite like the effect! Subtle but yet noticeable!

It is always a challenge to stick within strict color requirements and I sometimes wonder if a color is truly green-blue or blue-green! LOL!  I chose green as my additional color.  Dug out all my thickers and took one alpha out from each pack for the title.  I think it adds to the slightly askewed look of the layout.

The circles and polka dots were a natural choice for me - almost all my layouts have at least one circle!

Journalling: What I miss most of the 1st month is how tiny you were! Yet you were so determined! Even your grip was tenacious.  I miss how I could cuddle you with just one arm & you'd fit.

Kite Festival

So we went to the Kite Festival over the weekend.

The parking was a nightmare as should be expected but being newbies at such events, we forgot. Luckily DH managed to get a lot fairly quickly while I walked with the little one (in his pram) to the site (which we found by trial and error - WCP is a long long stretch! And there were to many trees to look out for the kites if that was what you were thinking (Coz I thought I had that great brainwave too.)

But when we finally hit the right spot (in front of Mac Donalds) it was a sight to behold! So many kites! And even more people! Multiple booths offering children the chance to play with percussion instruments, installation art (I'm still not sure what it meant), how to make kites, sand sculptures...

Photobucket

The little one enjoyed the wind in his hair and gawked for a short while at the kites before he lost interest. He was happy to amble around holding my hand, though a little unsteadily. That was enough to make his day. It's lovely to see the world through the eyes of a child, isn't it?
